New Saleen 351 Mustang Announced with 700 Horsepower – 2012 L.A
The Saleen-engineered 351 is based on the Ford Mustang GT’s stock 5.0-liter V-8 and is projected to produce 700 hp and 655 lb-ft of torque as equipped with the Saleen 296 supercharger and Red Butterfly intake system. The 351 will serve as a premier Saleen offering, slotting above the current Saleen 302 in the lineup. A six-speed manual transmission with a unique Saleen clutch and 3.73:1 final drive ratio will complete the drivetrain.
Saleen will fit five-spoke 20×9 and 20×10-inch wheels front and rear, respectively, with suspension modifications incorporated to ensure that handling isn’t sacrificed in the name of straight-line speed. A carbon-fiber body kit might improve aerodynamics, but we know for sure that it gives the Saleen street cred – especially toward the rear with the F1-inspired brake light set into the rear diffuser.
Pricing is not yet announced, but Saleen says that production will begin in January 2013, with approximately 100-150 351 Mustangs built during the first year of production. Get more from the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show at our comprehensive auto show page.
